Surrendering  a  horse

At M & M Horse Rescue, we are proud to be an open-door rescue, committed to helping every equine in need, regardless of their condition or age.

We understand that surrendering your horse is a deeply personal and often difficult decision. However, it is also an act of compassion and selflessness that ensures your horse receives the care and attention it needs. By choosing to surrender, you give your horse the best chance at safety and a future free from the risks of the auction or slaughter pipeline.

Thank you for trusting M & M Horse Rescue to care for your equine companion. We are here to support you and your horse every step of the way.

M & M   Horse  Rescue  Surrender  Process

At M & M Horse Rescue, we are an open-door,  we accept any horse regardless of age or condition. To help cover the initial intake and first month of care, we request a suggested intake fee of $250. While this fee is not mandatory, it significantly helps us provide immediate care for your horse.

Intake Process:

  • With an Intake Fee:
Horses whose owners can pay the intake fee are given priority and can typically be brought to the rescue as soon as transport is arranged. Occasionally, intake may be delayed if we are at or near capacity, but we will do our best to expedite the process.

  • Without an Intake Fee:
If you’re unable to pay the intake fee, we will still accept your horse as space and funding allow. In such cases, your horse may be placed on a waiting list, and we will contact you as soon as space becomes available.

Care and Evaluation:

Upon arrival, each horse is thoroughly evaluated by our team. If necessary, a veterinarian will conduct additional assessments, which may include x-rays, a dental exam and float, or other medical procedures. A rehabilitation plan will be created to ensure your horse’s health and well-being.

If a horse is found to have an untreatable or unmanageable condition with a poor prognosis for a pain-free life, our veterinarian may recommend end-of-life services. In such cases, we ensure the process is handled with compassion and dignity.

At M & M Horse Rescue, we are here to help both you and your horse. Thank you for entrusting us with their care.
